Babyshambles back We Love Marlborough Babyshambles, the band fronted by Marlborough resident Pete Doherty, have given their backing to We Love Marlborough.
Frontman Pete, bass player Drew McConnell and drummer Adam Ficek have all contributed original, signed works of art to the Get In the Gallery initiative, part of the month-long We Love Marlborough celebrations.
Get In the Gallery saw hundreds of postcards distributed to school children and local celebrities. The postcards will be displayed at the Morgan Boyce Gallery, Hughenden Yard, Marlborough for a week after the official launch this Saturday, July 5.
Over 1,000 postcards have been created by young artists aged between four and 18 years old.
All of the postcards - with the exception of Pete's - are for sale at £5, although they will be displayed without credit and the artist responsible for each picture will only be revealed to the buyer once the exhibition is over.
Anyone who wants to own Pete's painting has the opportunity to buy a £5 raffle ticket, with all proceeds going to local and national charities. The winning ticket will be drawn on July 31.
Pete's has used his own blood to create a painting, depicting three band members - two guitarists and a drummer - with musical notes in the air above them.
A pencil poem, written in French, describes a fumbling man with dirty hands putting on his hat. The postcard is signed on the reverse Peter Doherty, Babyshambles.
When examples of Pete's distinctive blood paintings went on sale at a London gallery in May 2006 they were p riced at £1,000 each. Rock star Pete, who performed an acoustic set at Glastonbury at the weekend, said he was delighted to support We Love Marlborough. "It's a really good idea," he said, "and I'm happy to be able to do something for it."
Postcards have also been produced by Alize Meurisse, who produced the cover artwork for Babyshambles' second album, Shotter's Nation, and Robyn Whitehead, the band's photographer and film-maker.
The exhibition, sponsored by GWR Kids, runs from 10am to 6.30pm on Saturday, 11am to 4pm on Sunday and 10am to 5.30pm from Tuesday to Thursday (July 8 to 10).
Raffle tickets are available by post from Morgan Boyce Gallery, Hughenden Yard, Marlborough, SN8 1LT or by phone on 01672 516400. Pete’s postcard will be on display until the 31 July, when the raffle will be drawn.
